Sgt. Robert May

Sgt. May is currently a supervisor in the sheriff’s office Traffic Safety Unit. After graduating The Citadel in 2008, Sgt. May began his career with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, starting out on uniform patrol. He found his passion in training new deputies, which eventually earned him the rank of Master Deputy in his division. After serving in that capacity, Sgt. May was promoted to his current rank and was made responsible for supervising numerous patrol deputies.

In 2021, Sgt. May was asked to transfer to the Traffic Safety Unit. He is currently responsible for six traffic deputies, who’s primary mission is to reduce traffic collisions and impaired driving, through enforcement and education. Sgt. May also holds several instructor level certifications through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, which he uses to teach and certify deputies at the sheriff’s office.
