The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit is widely regarded as one of the finest in the South — and that distinction doesn’t happen by accident. Behind every working dog is a significant investment of resources, training, and dedication that goes far beyond what the county budget covers.
That’s where the Greenville Sheriff’s Foundation comes in.
The Foundation relies entirely on donations to help fund the K9 program. A single K9 can cost $10,000 or more — and that’s before factoring in ongoing training and specialized equipment such as ballistic vests and vehicles equipped to constantly monitor cabin temperatures, alerting handlers to any dangerous change.
Recently, several of our handlers and K9s joined other K9 units and Mounted Horse units from across the state as Governor Henry McMaster signed into law a bill that enhances penalties for harming or killing police animals. This long-awaited legislation was years in the making and represents a meaningful step forward in protecting the animals who serve alongside our officers every day.
Every dollar donated to the Greenville Sheriff’s Foundation goes directly toward supporting the men, women, and working dogs who put their lives on the line to keep our community safe.
