New Donation to Sheriff’s Office Foundation Facilitates Purchase of State-of-the-art Thermal Imaging Drones

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office relies heavily on healthy community relationships, throughout the county, in an effort to continue to make Greenville safe and inviting. Today, one of those healthy relationships was on display. GCSO deputies participated in the grand reopening ceremony of a local Walmart, located on White Horse Rd., after remodel efforts were completed. During the ceremony, Walmart officials presented the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Foundation with a $2,000 donation check.

This check served only as a portion of the $10,500 total donation that was accumulated through the fundraising efforts of several local Walmart locations. Numerous Walmart locations worked hand-in-hand to raise money to support the services and day-to-day functionalities of the Sheriff’s Office. These donations will be used to purchase state-of-the-art thermal imaging drones, for GCSO’s Patrol Drone Program to ultimately serve the community.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Foundation assists with purchasing cutting-edge equipment and technology to contribute to the fulfillment of agency duties, along with providing scholarships for continual education.

(GREENVILLE, SC) – The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a generous donation made to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Foundation of $90,000 from the Silent Tears Foundation, headed by Bob and Kelly Castellani. This significant contribution is earmarked for the acquisition of five state-of-the-art forensic computers that will bolster the capabilities of the Sheriff’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit.

The new forensic computers are equipped with advanced technology that empowers our investigators in their relentless fight against crimes targeting children. These cutting-edge machines enable our team to navigate vast datasets, utilize specialized recovery tools to examine and extract critical evidence, and efficiently organize this information. This technology gives our investigators a comprehensive understanding of each case they handle.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are very thankful for the relationship and the partnership we have with Silent Tears and their willingness to give back to the community to keep our children safe.” The collaboration between Silent Tears Foundation and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office exemplifies the dedication to the safety and well-being of our community’s children.

One notable feature of these forensic computers is their ability to identify encrypted files, hidden folders, and deleted data. This capability is pivotal in our investigators’ success as they work tirelessly to combat crimes against our children.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Silent Tears Foundation for their generous donation, which will significantly enhance our ability to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office 2020 Scholarship Recipients

One of the missions of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Foundation is to provide scholarships to children of GCSO employees to encourage continuing education beyond high school.

Since 1983 the GCSO Foundation has maintained a scholarship fund for the children of full-time GCSO employees. This year, in addition to this fund, our Board reached out to the community and sought corporate matches in order to increase award amounts for 36 deserving students. With this in mind, we are pleased that the scholarship amounts awarded this year are significantly higher than in years past.

2020 has been a year for the record books – for many reasons. The Foundation wanted to take the opportunity to express to the officers that we believe in you, we honor you, we respect you, we support you, and we pray for you. Greenville County is a wonderful place to call home. This is in no small part due to our outstanding officers. THANK YOU for the work you do to keep our county safe.

Congratulations to each of these very deserving students and best wishes for a productive and successful academic year.
